Leather production is a one of the oldest & evolved manufacturing in the history of mankind, involving numerous natural chemicals right from the raw stage to finishing.

Customers are often confused when it comes to understanding Leather Making, not only because of the drastic evolution of the Leather CHEMISTRY in last two decade, but also due to the MYTH that surrounds it.

Below are the basic and most often enquired subjects:

WHAT IS THE SOURCE: Raw Hide Procurement & Quality Management

  • Raw Material procurement comes from Government Approved Slaughter Houses. These are State OF the Art facilities, approved by the government and are one of the most hygienically maintained facilities, where animal slaughtering is regulated by the Indian Government through quota system.
  • Animals are of HUGE service to mankind’s survival. Every part of animal, from meat to leather, benefits mankind. Meat comes first in the Value Chain of an animal followed by the numerous organs, which are used in pharmaceuticals, biological fertilizers and Dog Food, to name a few.
  • Leather is often down in the end of VALUE CHAIN, being of low value in comparison to other useful products. Hence making it, by and large low value BYPRODUCT of animal, by slaughter houses.
  • Q.C. of Raw hide, often measured in the SELECTION & HEALTHY STATE, is one of the most complex, experience based Work. Presence of Natural Hair and coloration of hide makes it tedious to Q.C. and the expertise of which comes only with experience & time. It is often said in the world of raw hide trade, “An elderly eye can see through the SKIN”.
  • Collaboration and relationship with hide suppliers is THE KEY TO SUCCESS IN LEATHER TRADE.

WHAT GOES INTO THE LEATHER: Input & modern procedures

  • Finished leather has about 15% of moisture, 15% of Chemical Components & REST is pure Leather.
  • Most of the components used in prior stages hide production are basic raw materials, which are used to modify the degrading nature of raw hide to rotten to a long lasting material. In the Post tanning process, leather is dressed to make it USEFUL and BEAUTIFUL.
  • Testing of the Material used to modify & dress the leather is important, before it is used in production. This rigorous Q.C. of components ensures Consistency in quality and safety of usage Leather.
  • Almost all components at ALIG come from European MULTINATIONAL companies, who comply to regulations of Industry strongly.
  • Centralized Lab facilitates Chemical & Physical testing of Chemicals & Leather at various stages of the production, ensuring compliance to regulation & standards during Production and by the Suppliers. Ref. to our Various QC charts Link.

WHAT MAKES A DEVELOPMENTS INTO FASHION: Bringing creativity to market

  • Keeping up with the trends and fashion is most intensive & extensive part of production.
  • Forecast from MODEUROPE & WGSN are taken as benchmark to establish the colors and textures trends for the coming season, keeping us in pace with meeting Fashion.
  • State of the Art Development cell helps creativity reach faster to customer and market.
  • Computerized Color Matching leads to faster color developments eliminating the boundaries of Design Centre to Manufacturing.
  • Using popular CAD systems to help facilitate designers to connect with R&D cell and concluding product designs at faster pace than ever before.
  • High End production and superfast deliveries help right development to reach market at the right time.

WHAT IS THE COMPLIANCE STANDARD: Regulation & Testing Compliance

  • We are AN ISO 9001 COMPANY.
  • IN-HOUSE comprehensive chemical & physical testing lab helps regulate the Supplies standards as well as the final product’s specification.
  • European standards (REACH, DIN, IUF), Indian Standard (IS), British Standard (BS) are some of the standards which are basic compliant to our Production standard.
  • Computerized Color matching keeps color consistency to highest standard.
